Ah, Mexico: the land of margaritas and sunshine. At least that's what comes to mind for some of us here at Tracy Mazda. When Mazda execs think of Mexico, however, they think of money and manufacturing. The Japanese automaker and Sumitomo Corporation have teamed up to form the new Mazda Motor Manufacturing de Mexico S.A. de C.V. Plant workers will build new 2014 versions of the Mazda2 and Mazda3 models for South American markets. The factory will be located in Salamanca, Guanajuato, and the cars will be the same as the Mazda Axela and Mazda Demio models in Japan.
A ceremony was recently held on the grounds of the future plant and was hosted by Sumitomo's executive VP, Kazuo Ohmori and Takashi Yamanouchi, Mazda Motor Corp.'s Chairman, President and CEO. Yamanouchi spoke of his enthusiasm surrounding the new plants, saying, "Since Mazda established its sales network in Mexico six years ago, we have experienced a remarkable acceptance from the people of Mexico. Last year Mazda sold over 25,000 vehicles and captured over three percent market share. We are excited to be constructing this new facility here in Mexico with our partner Sumitomo Corp. It will be vital to bolstering our expansion in Central and South America."1 Mazda certainly is doing well for itself-in foreign markets as well as the U.S.
With these expansions, Mazda must be doing something right. Stop by Tracy Mazda and see for yourself why these popular vehicles impress consumers globally. Located at 2680 Auto Plaza Dr Tracy, CA 95304, we're easy to find. We look forward to meeting you soon, but for now we'll say: Happy Holidays from all of us at Tracy!
