At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Mazda unveiled the all-new Mazda CX-5 to eager fans. Now, the automaker's Senior VP of U.S. operations has stated that an upcoming redesign of the CX-5 and three other new Mazda models are in the works. All updates will be completed and alive in the market by 2014, giving attentive fans three years of new material releases.
As most consumers already know, the CX-5 will be the latest in the popular CX family and the first out of the four redesigns, arriving somewhere in spring of 2012. The following year, in 2013, refreshed variants of the MAZDA3, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda CX-9 will be released into consumer hands. Updated from the inside out, these models will arrive on a platform exclusive to Mazda. What can we expect to see with this new platform? Think more power, lighter bodies and increased fuel-economy. And if all that isn't enough, Mazda fans can start anticipating added stop-start technology and hybrid variants that are on the schedule for 2016.
The Mazda CX-5, slated first for release, will also be the first to display the automaker's new design language. Referred to as "KODO: Soul of Motion," the concept aims to instill the energy of motion even when the vehicle remains still. With core focus on speed, structure and sense, the design is sure to be unlike anything we've seen before.
