MAZDA will introduce the Mazda CX-5 at Tracy Mazda (located at 2680 Auto Plaza Dr Tracy, CA 95304) by 2012. Aside from it being a much anticipated crossover, this vehicle is the first car implementing a new ultra-high tensile steel.

But what does that mean to the driver?

Ultra-high tensile steel will work with a new energy absorbing structure in various parts of the vehicle body. This material will compress and absorb more during a crash, giving any occupants a better chance of surviving accidents. It will also greatly improve maneuvering.

"Mazda conducted extensive research into how bumper beams deform in a crash, and created a new design that absorbs energy more efficiently," according to one report.¹

This plan will give a miles per gallon ratings boost to CX-5 as well. Added to the fuel efficient SKYACTIV engine, Mazda cars may become the greenest on the road. Ultra-high tensile steel is part of Mazda's goal of producing lightweight, highly rigid cars.
