The 2016 Mazda CX-3 rests at the top of the crossover segment, and even the much-publicized 2016 Jeep Renegade is in no position to compete. Manteca and Stockton drivers who are looking for an efficient ride, first-rate features, and total peace of mind should bypass the Renegade entirely.

Mazda is known for going back to basics when it comes to engine design in order to provide cutting-edge efficiency without sacrificing power. The 2016 Mazda CX-3 follows that philosophy perfectly, so it’s able to provide you with up to 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque while achieving up to a highly competitive 29 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway with FWD or 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway with AWD.

The 2016 Jeep Renegade tries to double its luck with two available engines, but both demand far more fuel:

  • 1.4L Four-Cylinder: Makes just 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
  • 2.4L Four-Cylinder: Makes 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

The 2016 Mazda CX-3 offers both more standard and available features than the 2016 Jeep Renegade. Unlike with the Renegade, all models of the Mazda CX-3 carry a rearview camera, 7-inch full-color touchscreen, and a push button start system, and its exclusive available features are just as impressive. They include:

  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control With Close Proximity Warning: Preset your required speed, then have the vehicle maintain it while keeping a safe distance between you and the preceding vehicle.
  • Premium Bose Audio: The Mazda CX-3’s available state-of-the-art sound system features seven speakers from one of the biggest names in sound, plus HD radio and satellite radio as standard.

Perhaps more than any other vehicle, a crossover needs to offer comfortingly robust safety scores; these models are trusted by families all across the country, so they need to be worthy of that faith.

The 2016 Mazda CX-3 certainly meets that requirement. It was awarded a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, plus a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS. The latter has become increasingly hard to earn over the years, with vehicles now requiring a top score of “Good” across all crash-test simulations and either “Superior” or “Advanced” in terms of Frontal Crash Protection.

The 2016 Jeep Renegade failed to live up to those requirements, missing out on any award entirely. It earned a 4-star overall safety rating by the NHTSA.

The 2016 Mazda CX-3 is Safer, Better-Equipped, and More Efficient Than the 2016 Jeep Renegade

The 2016 Jeep Renegade was vaunted as a Jeep crossover that could perform well away from the backcountry — but in reality, it routinely fails to keep up with models like the 2016 Mazda CX-3. To test-drive a Mazda CX-3 near Manteca and Stockton, visit Tracy Mazda.
