Car and Driver Names the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda3 to Their 2017 10Best List
Car and Driver have just got done testing the very best of the newest models, and both the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Mazda3 have been named to their 2017 10Best List. The MX-5 Miata convertible is plainly all about driving fun, but that sense of vibrancy has been transferred to the compact class as well in the form of the stunning Mazda3, so we weren’t surprised to see both models make the cut.
Car and Driver’s 10Best List
There are plenty of automotive honors out there, but a position on Car and Driver’s 10Best list is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious. Entrants must cost below $80,000 and be either a returning winner or a heavily revised entrant, and that’s just to qualify. In order to earn a place on the 2017 list, vehicles had to prove their mettle against 60 other models.
The 2017 Mazda3
As Car and Driver notes: “Even well into its product cycle, Mazda’s 3 still carries momentum in places most of its competitors can’t.” Updates for this year covered everything from a restyling of the front and rear fascia to the addition of G-Vectoring Control.
All of these upgrades impressed the Car and Driver panel. They described the Mazda3 as offering “the best chassis in the compact class”, remarking that this is “the driver’s choice.” With G-Vectoring Control minimizing engine torque at turn-in for a jerk-free drive and a score of available technologies in the cabin, the Mazda3 experienced little difficulty standing out. It’s even available as both a 4-door and a 5-door.
The 2017 MX-5 Miata
Car and Driver writes that the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata “represents a continuing dedication to the sports-car ideal”. Offering energetic performance from a 2.0L four-cylinder engine, the vehicle is able to charge with grace wherever you need to go, whether that means taking twisting turns from Modesto to Yosemite or soaking up the sun with the top down on a trip from Stockton to San Francisco.
The RF (Retractable Fastback) model is worthy of praise in its own right. The hardtop extends or stows in only 14 seconds without taking any more space than the soft-top.
