The first all-electric Mazda is coming to California this fall. The new 2022 Mazda MX-30 marks Mazda’s entry into the EV market. Created using the Mazda Kodo design philosophy, the new Mazda MX-30 will be a contemporary, sophisticated, high-performance electric SUV built with urban drivers in mind. Official prices, ranges and other data have yet to be released, but you can expect the new Mazda MX-30 to have superior handling, acceleration, and premium convenience and driver-assist features. And get ready for a plug-in hybrid Mazda MX-30 with a rotary-powered generator to arrive next year!
The new Mazda MX-30 runs on a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor with 144 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. Enhancements to the already nimble Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture help the electric Mazda MX-30 have even better driving dynamics. The upcoming Mazda MX-30 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will utilize a rotary generator to move silently while also recharging the battery as you drive. Mazda is partnering with ChargePoint to provide access to thousands of charging stations across the U.S. with the option to use Level 2 and DC fast charging. The battery-powered Mazda MX-30 can recharge from 20% to 80% in about 36 minutes using DC fast charging*.
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 may remind you of the 2021 Mazda CX-30 with a similar size and shape, but there are some distinct differences. The overall silhouette is modernized and sleek with striking ‘freestyle’ doors. The freestyle doors are rear-hinged to open wide, creating a sense of openness through the cabin doors and make it easy for passengers to enter and exit the second row.
Inside, the new Mazda MX-30 is built with more sustainable materials, including fabrics made from recycled bottles and cork accents – a nod to Mazda’s beginnings as a cork manufacturing company. A floating center console offers increased storage space with an electronic shifter and a new 7-inch touchscreen with tactile buttons and a command knob to make navigating the climate control system faster and safer. Use Mazda Connected Services to monitor the battery level, charging status, as well as climate control and to lock/unlock the doors.
The new Mazda MX-30 EV is just the beginning of electrification for Mazda. By 2025, Mazda plans to launch 13 electrified vehicles, including three all-electric Mazdas, five plug-in hybrid Mazdas, and three hybrid Mazda models. By 2030, 25% of the models Mazda produces will be electrified vehicles. These vehicles will be released in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
